Housing and regeneration projects
Salisbury House, St. Helens
Commissioned by Salvation Army Housing Association to develop a strategy and proposals for environmental improvements to Salisbury House residential centre. Works including boundary provision and a resident’s garden started on site in Summer 2005. Work completed on site April 2006. Budget £50,000.
Chell Heath Estate, Stoke-on-Trent (1988-1992, for CTAC, Manchester)
Refurbishment of a large public housing area. Involved as project Landscape Architect with design, resident consultations, project management & contract administration. Contract value: £2.7 million over 3 phases. Hard and soft landscape works, fencing and bespoke boundary works.
Trinity project Salford (1986, for Cass Associates, Liverpool)
Detailed design, involvement with masterplanning of a major inner city renewal project. Contract values: £150-250k.
Sylvester Street, Liverpool (1985, for ASH EDP)
Detailed design of an inner City housing renewal project. Hard and soft landscape works. Contract value: £75k
Hassall Home Mercia (1993-96)
Landscape design consultancy on softworks for private house builder on projects in Rugby, Telford and Derby.
North Valley Estatem Colne (1991-92, for CTAC, Manchester)
A study of the use of open space on a large Council Estate, leading to proposals for the development of public space with a hierarchy of different uses - from localised ‘pocket parks’ to public spaces oriented towards the whole community. The study developed with the involvement of a working party drawn from local residents.
Heathlands retirement home Prestwich, Manchester (1995/96)
Masterplan, design proposals and management strategy.
Coates Estate, Barnoldswick (1991-92, for CTAC, Manchester)
Working closely with a group drawn from residents with local authority representation, the study focussed on the sketch design proposals for a park and children’s play area on a disused allotment site. At the same time the study aimed to embrace the wider issues of the use of public space on a council estate.
Assheton House environmental improvements (1997-97, for Assheton Residents Association in association with TPAS)
Proposals involved traffic calming and management, boundary works to create a more secure residential environment around a high rise Local Authority block of flats in Ashton under Lyne. Submitted for Lottery funding October 1997.
Masterplanning and urban design projects
Valley Field Park, Partington
Client – Manchester and District Housing Association in association with Community Association Partington (Tenants and residents association). Funding was secured for a feasibility study through the New Opportunities Find ‘Doorstep Greens’ programme which involved developing proposals in conjunction with a comprehensive resident consultation programme. Phase One comprises a new park with sculptural landform and an emphasis on facilities for 1-16 year olds, including all weather sport provision and skateboarding. Phase 1 Completed 2004.
Wakefield Waterfront masterplanning strategy (1997)
Working in partnership with Wakefield Groundwork Trust, the proposals were submitted as the main part of an ERDF bid by Wakefield City Centre Partnership.
Manchester Airport strategic landscape masterplanning study (1995, for Manchester Airport plc)
Huyton town centre design proposals (1989, for Ash Environmental design Partnership, Liverpool)
Feasibility design proposals for the refurbishment of the town centre & 1960’s shopping centre.
Woodside ferry, Birkenhead (1988, for ASH EDP)
Design feasibility study for Waterfront public spaces linked to a transport interchange, commissioned by Merseyside Development Corporation.
Commercial industrial and retail projects
Broomwood shopping area, Altrincham (1999-2000)
Design proposals for the remodelling of frontages to a local shopping parade improving disabled access and incorporating hard and soft Landscape features. Client - Irwell Valley Housing Association.
Boots’ distribution centre, Sherwood Park, Nottingham (1997-98)
Consultant Landscape Architect with Multi-Design Consultants, Stockport. Involved with design and specification of Landscape softworks, completion April 1998. Value £70k.
Gallaher distribution centre, Crewe (1992- 94)
Consultant landscape architect for Project Architects / Engineers / Multi-Design. Design of overall landscape layout, design and detailed design of ponds, paved areas, car parking and planting design. Value of works £150,000.
Rock retail park, Birkenhead (1998-2000)
Landscape Softworks design on commercial retail development. Client - Henry Boot Developments Ltd. Contract value £75,000.
Huyton industrial estate entrance feature (1989)
Commisioned by Knowsley Borough Council to design an entrance feature with "meaning".
Manchester Airport T1 car park works (1995-1996, for Manchester Airport plc)
Project in two phases comprising hardworks (provision of new footpath, entrance area, bus turning area and passenger waiting area) Contract value £35,000: completed May 1995. Softworks comprised planting, seeding, and ongoing maintenance on a restricted budget (£10,000) from May 1995 to July 1996.
Parks and public spaces
Audlem Millenium Green design proposals (1998-99, for Audlem District Council)
Design proposals leading to a successful funding bid for £50K.
Parr Fold skate park, Walkden (for Worsley/Walkden Youth Task Group in partnership with Salford City Council Leisure services)
Design development of setting for ramp facility and canopy within Parr Fold Park. Project currently at tender stage. Approx. value £55,000. Scheme currently at tender stage.
Residential design projects
112 Mill Brow, Worsley (1997-98)
Garden design proposals,Woodland Management Strategy for T & J Bloxham.
Broad Road, Sale
Courtyard design for new residential apartments. Working with Manchester based architects MBLA.
Ellerslie, Didsbury
Design of a large suburban garden of a Victorian house in Manchester incorporating and reinterpretting existing mature planting. Completed Autumn 1996
Endon Hall Farmhouse, Macclesfield
The design proposals aim to stitch together fragmented elements into a coherent whole while relating a domestic landscape to the surrounding upland agricultural landscape.
Rampson, Cumbria
Design of Garden areas and landscape planning of an upland Pennine site. The project embraces cultural, historic & landscape references combined with a creative relationship with the client in aiming to create a distinctive & personal identity for the project.
Strines Road, Marple
Design of a terrace area with stone walling, steps and paving. Completed Spring 1998, budget £20,000.
