Sale West 'Transforming your space' (2003-present)
SMLA were appointed to develop proposals for upgrading public open space in the Sale West area of Greater Manchester by Irwell Valley Housing Association in June 2003. Working in partnership with the Housing Association, local residents and Trafford Council proposals have been developed to refurbish two parks, a local neighbourhood shopping area and the environment around high-rise block of flats. Also improved links to the adjoining Trans–Pennine trail cycleway are being developed. Budget: £500,000. Work due to start on site in January 2005.

Valley Field Park Partington (1999-present)
Client – Manchester and District Housing Association in association with Community Association Partington (Tenants and residents association). Funding was secured for a feasibility study through the New Opportunities Find ‘Doorstep Greens’ programme which involved developing proposals in conjunction with a comprehensive resident consultation programme. The project comprises a new park with sculptural landform and an emphasis on facilities for 1-16 year olds, including all weather sport provision and skateboarding.

Funding of £80,000 has been secured from the ‘Doorstep Greens’ programme with matching finding secured from Manchester and District Housing Association. Other finding bids from Northwest Arts / Sport England and the NWDA are awaited. Project value approximately £500,000. Due to start on site in 2004.

Urban Jungles Pilot Project (2002)
Work has now started on a small public space project in Hilton Street, central Manchester. Funding for the project has come from the Mersey Basin Campaign/North West development Agency.

Parr Fold skate park, Walkden (for Worsley/Walkden Youth Task Group in partnership with Salford City Council Leisure services)
Design development of setting for ramp facility and canopy within Parr Fold Park. Project currently at tender stage.(approx. value £55,000).Scheme currently at tender stage and due on site in early 2002.

Audlem Millenium Green design proposals (1998-99, for Audlem District Council)
Design proposals leading to a successful funding bid for £50K.

Whitworth Park refurbishment proposals (1996, for Manchester City Council)
Design proposals responding to a brief for greater 'user friendliness' & interest within an historic Edwardian Park incorporating a 'sensory' trail, elements with greater wildlife & seasonal interest such as a 'Bluebell Glade' & the integration of unsympathetically realised additions such as an all weather play area & children's play area. The project is likely to be subject to development & modification to accommodate proposed extensions to the Whitworth Art Gallery.

Barrack’s Park phase 1, Hulme, Manchester (1993, for Camlin-Lonsdale Landscape Architects, Manchester)
Detailed design development of proposals for a contemporary refurbishment of an Inner City park.

Everton Park, Liverpool (1986-87, for Cass Associates, Liverpool)
Design development & specification of the lake area including water features, planting, seating areas.

Speke Park, Liverpool (1986, for Cass Associates, Liverpool)
Design development & specification of public park including multi-use sports area.

Leroy and James play area, Hulme (1990-1991, for CTAC Manchester)
The scheme involved the development of a challenging public open play space in Hulme with local residents and children. Involved detailed design and contract management. In 1992 achieving a commendation in the TIMES / RIBA CES Awards. Value £150,000.

Zion United Reformed Church, Levenshulme, Manchester
Design and implementation of a garden area for a church & church hall. The brief for the project required a variety of uses including a seating area, rockery, and Rose Garden, which were incorporated within a coherent spatial framework with distinctive purpose designed details to engender a unique sense of place. Contract value: £20,000

Partington community resource centre (1997, for Community Action, Partington)
Lottery funding Proposals submitted for the external areas around a refurbished school building working closely with project architects 'Architects Britch' and the local community.
